Hauliers should take these actions:
Issue a policy document to drivers detailing the system that is in place to prevent stowaways entering vehicles. Make it clear that this is a serious plank of company policy and make them sign it.
Get hold of the code of practice and display it prominently in your depot. Brief your drivers about its implications.
Issue drivers with a checklist that details each part of the trailer to be checked (eg roof, trailer doors, curtain straps, TIR cord, etc). If someone else loads the vehicle they must sign to confirm they have done so. Aaron & Partners can supply drafts of these documents.
