• A Cambridgeshire heavy haulier has sold his business's goodwill to a rival and is to auction off his entire special ist fleet later this month.

Michael Rolls, owner of Bourn-based MJ Rolls, has merged his 40-year-old heavy haulage business with Hatfield rival Hallett Silberman, creating a new division to be called Rolls Transport.

As part of the merger the Rolls drivers were made redundant, although it is thought that many of them have been offered jobs with the new venture, which is also to be based in Hatfield.

It is unclear why the partners have taken this decision; they say they felt the company's best interests would be better served if it were part of a larger company with 'Wider interests".

MJ Rolls' management will move across and the new von

ture will use Hallett's existing heavy haulage vehicles.

Auctioneer Malcolm Harrison is preparing to sell Rolls' fleet on 30 June. A fleet of 12 Volvo tractive units and 24 specialist low-loader trailers in a variety of configurations are all to be sold at MJ Rolls' Bourn premises.
