OADLINE UK which had a bad year in 1979 is to spearhead the NFC's attack n the parcels traffic in the 1980s. Mr Peter Thompson, N FC's chief executive sid last week that the company had invested large amounts of capital and it leant business.
He told an audience at the openingof oadline's new computerised Southampin branch that there would only be six iajor parcels carriers in Britain by the end F the decade.
NFC is prepared to spend substantial -nounts to up date depot sorting systems. )r mechanisation alone it has set aside 51/2m to be spent in the next three years.
The next depot to be fitted out is Edinurgh and it should be fully operational ith its micro chip technology before the end of 1980. The new technology equipment gives depots a faster turn round and a bigger throughput according to Mike Rowley, Roadline's director of operational development.
Following Southampton and Edinburgh, Bradford, Leicester, Manchester and Northampton are in line for overhaul. News of these development plans will enhance Roadline's image and boost its .value in the City when tie company goes public with other NFC companies.
