Transport was established on October 17 1963 in Brussels. As distinct from Common Market organizations this Conference has the following objectives: To achieve the best use and most rational development of European inland transport having an international significance and to co-ordinate and promote the work of international organizations concerned with European inland transport.

Normally the Ministers of Transport, meeting in Council, act on the basis of the responsibilities which they have in their own countries. If they support any decisions, they undertake in their own country to take the necessary executive measures within their power.
