Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A new general-purpose Ford Transit-based ambulance for wheelchairs, stretchers or sitting patients has been designed by Pilchers (Merton) Ltd., Sussex ambulance specialists.

Built on the Transit 390 cu. ft. parcels van, the Pilchers design incorporates an electro/ hydraulic tailgate for loading wheelchairs, a storage tunnel under the floor to accommodate two telescopic stretchers, and a heating/ ventilation system with integral air trunking.

A second timber floor has been built above the existing parcels van floor to the height of the wheel boxes and set into this floor are anchorage points for wheelchairs.

Access into the rear can be gained from the driving compartment passed its folding passenger seats and via a central gangway. Modesty screens are fitted each side of this gangway. The rear step is constructed as an integral part of the floor and when in the lowered position exposes the stretcher storage tunnel.

The main body has three fold-up inwardfacing seats each side of the compartment. Fitted beneath the seats are Pilchers slideaway stretcher racks. Accommodation in the ambulance, excluding the cab area, allows for six wheelchairs or 10 sitting cases, or two stretcher cases, or any combination of these.

Optional extras available with the vehicle include a 7in. rear floodlamp, a blood bottle holder, a vacuum flask, resuscitation equipment. two-way radio, first-aid kit and underseal.

Retail price for the complete unit is £2,385 for inward-facing seats for 10 people. Alternatively, an eight forward-facing seat layout is available at £87 10s extra.
