AHYDRAULIC pipe bender called the Rota press which has been introduced by Chamberlain Industries Ltd., Staffa Works, Argall Avenue, London, E.10, is said to represent a complete departure from conventional bending machines as its adjustable bending head permits both press bending and rotary bending operations to be carried out on the same machine.

The standard model has a set of gas formers for -Fin. and 2-in, pipe and additional former sets are available for bending copper conduits and mild steel, brass, aluminium or stainless steel tubes not exceeding 16SWG wall thickness and 18-ton yield stress.

Another recent introduction by Chamberlain Industries is a hollow-shaft model of its Staffa high torque, slow speed and reversible hydraulic motor. Designated the Staffa Mark 9, it has similar characteristics to the existing Mark 4. Operating at a working pressure of 2,500 p.s.i. with a peak pressure of 3,200 p.s.i. the displacement is 0-68 gal. per rev. and the nominal speed range in either direction is 0-100 r.p.m. At 2,500 p.s.i. the torque is 5,750 lb. ft. while at 3,200 p.s.i. the torque is 7,460 lb. ft., providing a power output at maximum speed of 100 b_h.p. at working pressure and 130 b.h.p. at peak pressure.

The motor is compact in design with an overall diameter of about 25-5 in. and an overall length of 22 in. Without hydraulic fluid the weight is 540 lb.
