Screw-in Compression Tester Introduced

ACOMPRESSION tester reading up to 200 psi. is now being produced by Lawrence Edwards and Co. (Engineers), Ltd., Commercial Buildings, Oxford Street, Kidderminster.

A positive screw-in connection is employed, which is said to speed opera-, tion and enable tests to be carried out by one person, besides giving a leakproof.. joittt and, therefore, greater accuracy. The reading on the gauge is maintainedfor as long aS the operative requires, even after removal from the sparking-plug hole. Another advantage is stated to be that the new tester may be used on cylinders inaccessible to direct-application or push-fit gauges.

Costing £4 19s. 6d. complete, the outfit comprises a precision compression tester for 14 mm. sparking-plug holes with 0-200 p.s.i. gauge, a 14 rnm./18 mm. adaptor, and a 12-in. armoured flexible pipe for insertion between the tester and gauge.

Screw-driver and Blowlamp ASCREW-DRIVER which automatically grips a screw when pushed into the slot, and a miniature blowlamp operating on methylated spirit, are being manufactured by Valtock, Ltd., Regency House, 1-4 Warwick Street, London, W.I.

Of tough insulating plastics, the handle of the 101 automatic screwdriver is hollow and can be lengthened by the insertion of a pencil. It is stated that a small screw can be placed on the

• blade and put into the most inacceSsible position without the risk of dropping it. The 2000 blowlamp weighs-only 7 oz. and stands 54. in. high. It is capable of

dealingwith inetal work, glass blowing, paint stripping, tinning and sweating, whilst its small, intense pencil flame can be directed with great accuracy. The retail price is 14s. 7d.

Solder-. Paint A NEW solder paint for speedy hot rTh. tinning of stainless steel has been developed by Perdeck Solder Products, Ltd., Abbey Mills, Waltham Abbey, Essex. Known-. as Epatam 3311, code PLF. 73/11, the new product is stated to effect tinning .and soldering of .stainless steel ai easily as working on copper or bright mild steel.

Other features are high degreasing and penetration properties, allowing tinning to he carried out through iron welding scales, rust and grease, thereby overcoming many other soldering problems in addition to its application to stainless steel.

The method of application is by painting on undiluted, straight from the tin, followed by heating by any convenient method to normal soldering temperature. If used on brass or copper, the solder paint may be diluted slightly with water for greater economy.

Trial 1-1b. packs are available to different specifications; 40/60 tin-lead costs 9s. 3d-; 60/40 tin-lead, 9s. 9d., and pure tin content, 12s. 6d.

Door-mounted Mirror PAA REAR-VIEW MIRROR suitable for mounting on the body of, a vehicle close to the windscreen and driver is now available from Joseph Lucas, Ltd., Great King Street, 13jrniinghain, 19.

The bracket has a wide foot with two-hole fixing and a rubber backing pad. It is supplied with self-tapping screws. The glass is circular and flat, and is said to give an undistorted rear mirror costs 21s. view when attached to the door adjacent to the driver. Chromium plated, the complete assembly costs 21s. and is coded 407/112.
