AHA ULIER with contract A licences is not necessarily entitled to seek B licences to spread his work over, even if somebody wants to employ him in such a category. This was stated by Mr. J. A. T. Hanlon, Northern Licensing Authority, when he refused an application at Middlesbrough last week. Mr. L. Preston, of Leven Road, Yarm, asked for B licences to carry building and road materials and agricultural products within a 20-mile radius in addition to existing A contract licences for a 5and 7-ton lorry. He said that he did not believe there was a surplus of B-class haulage locally. Mr. J. L. R. Croft, for the objectors, said that Messrs. R. Hall and Son, of Richmond, had recently had their whole fleet standing idle for a day. Several hauliers were unable to find work for their B-licence vehicles.
