I'm obliged to the Economist Intelligence Unit for this piece. Apparently one of the unit's senior consultants went along to keep an appointment with the md of a small haulage company and his role was misunderstood.

He was there to talk about freight movement but was greeted with a tirade about bouncing cheques. The haulier was waving a cheque for £250 with an explanatory "audio presentation" "This is the second dud and it's not good enough,or words to that effect.

When he heard who and what the visitor was, the transport man blushed and explained that he thought economic intelligence had something to do with the fraud squad. Come to think of it, he was probably not too far from the truth.
