Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has published a guide* to advise smaller companies on the effect that the euro could have on their banking and cash management.

The guide contains information on: • analysing a company's structure and activities in order to estimate the potential effects of the euro; • the facilities companies can expect banks to provide for the euro, before the UK enters the single currency.

Banking, Treasury and Cash Management Implications for Smaller Businesses is available, price L5.130, from Jacquie Parkins, ICAEW, PO Box 433, Moorgate Place, London EC2P 2B.J. Tel: 0171 920 8623.

Employee consultation

The European Commission has proposed a Directive which would establish a framework for employees to be consulted and informed about their employer's company. Under the Directive, employers with 50 or more employees would be required to inform and consult on development of the business and employment; and decisions which would result in a significant change in work organisation and contractual relations.

The Directive will aim to complement existing EU and national provisions.
