Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THIS IS the year of Big Brother according to George Orwell. Fortunately not all of us are purveyors of doom and despair.

We much prefer the positive thinking of those market research organisations which are predicting growth in the economy. Only by working for success will it be achieved. If we are to spend time looking over our shoulders then progress will be limited.

In recent years there has been a shake out in the road haulage industry and as we forecast last year, the fittest have survived. Seldom do we hear the term "cowboy" used in a transport context. The industry is better equipped and better managed now than at any time we can call to mind. But there is yet much to do.

There is still room for young graduates on the managerial ladder. For too long road transport has, in general, ignored their potential.

In European terms there is an enormous task in harmonising Regulations. Over the years transport matters have been pushed into the background in Brussels. What progress there has been is of little account. Perhaps the Prime Minister should appoint another Under Secretary to be solely responsible for European transport affairs.

At home the industry must be constantly on its guard against restrictive legislation. At the same time it must continue to build on its new responsible image.

With the "juggernaut" war now behind us, adverse publicity has largely disappeared. What is now required is a concerted effort to keep things moving forward.
