(Phil) Ives, former truck marketing manager of the truck and bus division of British Leyland has been appointed general manager of Ailsa Trucks Ltd, Barrhead, Scotland, concessionaire for Volvo trucks and buses. Mr Ives has also been appointed a director of three subsidiary companies in Ailsa Trucks Group, namely AiIse Truck (Assembly) Ltd, Ailsa Trucks (Northern) Ltd and Ailsa Bus Ltd. Arthur M. Newman, general .manager, Central SMT, Scottish Bus Group. has been appointed a director.

James Thorburn, fleet engineer with Road Services (Caledonian) Ltd, has retired after 23 years with the group.

Eric Harding has joined Willowbrook Ltd as home sales manager. An ex-Leyland management trainee, Mr Harding was previously in charge of vehicle sales with a large vehicle distributing group.

D. R. Baker, formerly group transport manager, has been appointed executive director of Tesco (Wholesale) Ltd, and retains his former responsibilities.

Michael Edwardes, 41, since February 1971 chief executive of Chloride Europe, has been appointed deputy managing director of Chloride Electrical Storage Co Ltd.

Spencer P. Higgin has been elected to the board of Tr-Wall Containers Ltd, London W1. The company is jointly owned by Tr-Wall Containers Inc, New York, and Tillotson and Son Ltd, who were recently acquired by St Regis Paper Co (UK) Ltd. Mr Higgin is chairman and managing director of St Regis Paper Company. Michael Horsfield, 36, has succeeded S. E. Taylor, who retired on December 31. as company chief accountant of National Carriers Ltd. Mr Horsfield, a chartered accountant, joined the then BR Sundries Division as management accountant in 1967; in the following year he was appointed financial accountant, the post he now leaves.

F. V. Hall has been appointed a director of George Hammond (Shipping) Ltd. The following appointments to the boards of the Hammond Group subsidiary companies have also been made; Mr Hail and R. F. Wood to the board of George Hammond (Transport) Ltd; A. E. Hansen to the board of George Hammond (Storage) Ltd: B. G. Metcalfe to the board of Dover Stevedoring Co Ltd. Owing to reallocation of Group responsibilities, J. E. Coe has resigned from George Hammond (Transport); D. C. Ryeland from George Hammond (Storage); and R. B. Ryeland from George Hammond (Freight) Ltd.

Len Wright has joined Grey-Green-Coaches Ltd as marketing executive after five years with the East Kent Road Car Co Ltd, latterly as private hire supervisor (Thanet). John VVilson is marketing director and Mike Taylor marketing assistant. David Hustings remains in charge of the inclusive tours department.
