Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A Correspondent Emphasizes the Need for Better Facilities for Obtaining Meals on the Newcastle-London Route.

CHRISTMAS holiday traffic over, the London-Newcastle route. provided additional proof of the inadequacy of the facilities for obtaining refreshments during night travel. A special correspondent of The Commercial Motor, who undertook the journey from London on the 8 o'clock north-bound coach on Christmas Eve, found that the conditions were much the same as those which had obtained during the summer months.

At the various stops the wayside caff•s were crowded with coach passengers, only a section of whom, however, were able to secure their light refreshments before it was again time to continue the journey. There did not appear to have been any undue effort to cope with the increased traffic— neither from the point of view of accom modation nor by way of expeditious service.

Many of the passengers who, for the first time, were travelling north by coach severely criticised the inadequate provision made for obtaining refreshments en route, and there does appear to be a widely expressed feeling in favour of the inauguration by the bus proprietors of some scheme on this particular route whereby' passengers will be provided with 'suitable facilities. The need for concerted action has been stressed in our columns.

It is certainly a pity that so much still remains to be carried out with regard to this one aspect of travel by road between Newcastle and London, and upon which a good deal of the future prosperity of road services between the two centres depends.
