An efficient form of device for protection against freezing of the radiator water has been brought out by the Tool Steel Gearing and Equipment Co., Ltd., 137, Victoria Street, London, S.W.1. This is an elaborate edition of the wellknown " haybox" which has been commented upon in this journal on several occasions and is utilized by a number of drivers.

The principle is to provide a reservoir which 'will greatly reduce the loss of heat from water which has already been in the radiator, or which has been other wise heated the evening before.

The Thermstore, as this particular product is tamed, is supplied in four standard models at the following prices : 2i-gallon, £1 5s.; 3i-gallon, 11 10s.; similar capacity with pulley, £1 15s.; and 5-gallon, £2. The last-named also has the pulley for use with the special lifting gear, which consists of a simple, well-arranged ratchet wheel and pawl with a winding handle and a strong. bracket which can easily be fixed to brick or other walls. Nails and 20 ft. of stratv'ed wire rope are provided for fixing, and the cost is £1 15s. If required, a roof pulley can be supplied in place of a pivoted arm.

The operation of the device is ex

tremely simple. There is a push-on connection and a special draincock which is supplied with the equipment, and opening this cock transfers the hot water in the radiator to the Thermstore. To return the water the coOt is closed and the hose inserted in the

A New Year's Message from Sir George Beharrell.

Sir George Beharrell is 'deputy president of the S.M.M. and T. and managing director of the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd.; therefore, his comments upon the New Year are of considerable import ance. He considers that the motor industry has approached this year with energy and courage, and it is even now abundantly plain that 1930 will witness the greatest drive to secure overseas trade which the industry has ever attempted.. In spite of relatively gteat strides during last year, the position of the British motor industry in our Dominions overseas does not begin to .approach the position it should hold, but manufacturers are 'determined to see this changed.

To ensure this, however, they need to be assured of the continuance of the help afforded by the McKenna duties. Many politicians and business men fail to realize that, under modern conditions of international industry, enormous expenditure on research and experiment is necessary to keep abreast of competition. That expenditure is only possible when it can be spread over a very large output.
