• The Vehicle Inspectorate's (VI) maintenance guide will be published toward the end of February, priced £4.50. Workshop managers will be able to get copies from Traffic Area Offices, VI district offices and HMSO.
Entitled A guide to maintaining roadworthiness' the publication will be divided into six parts: responsibilities; roadworthiness; inspections (workshops' and drivers' checks): safety inspection and repair facilities; planning a safety inspection programme; monitoring; and BS5750.
O The VI is to open testing stations on Saturdays. Following a survey of 500 hauliers which showed that 26% wanted Saturday opening and 25% longer week day hours. Other findings were that 80% would rather book tests directly with the local station than send the forms to Swansea and 30% wanted more information about why their vehicle failed.
