Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ADECISION on an application for a Contract A to A switch for 11 artics by George Tait and Son Ltd., of Leith, was deferred by the Scottish Licensing

Authority at Edinburgh last week.

Tait and Son is a subsidiary of the E. Chalmers (Holdings) Ltd. group of nine companies in the ferrous and nonferrous metal, paper stock and waste paper trade, and had been appointed haulage managers to the group last year, replacing a long-standing contracting concern which had been bought over.

Mr. A. Gilmour, a director of both Tait and Chalmers, gave evidence of desire to abandon the Contract A basis. The vehicles would continue to operate outward entirely on Chalmers traffic and to the extent of 85 per cent on return runs. This left 15 per cent 'capacity for hire and for use by the other subsidiaries. The objectors contended that no opportunity was offered to them to query the constituent firms in the Chalmers group.

The Authority said it was curious to find the applicant also acting as witness for the applicant firm and he considered that customer witnesses should have attended. He proposed to have a very close look at the evidence.
