ON Monday, Merseyside Co-ordination Committee decided to appoint a committee, with powers to engage a technical expert, to report upon the possibilities of setting up an authority for Merseyside on the lines of the London Passenger Transport Board. It is stated that representatives of Liverpool, Birkenhead, Bootle, Wallasey and Mersey Docks and Harbour Board were present,
"SINGLES AND PERIODS ": COURT APPLICATION.
THIS week, application was made in the High Court for the hearing of the case to be brought by some dozen operators, against the decisions of the Minister of Transport and South-Eastern Traffic Commissioners concerning single and period-return tickets on seasonal express services from the coast. Mr. R. P. Croom-Johnson, K.C., M.P., is to be leading counsel.
ROAD-RAIL TOURS OF NOTTINGHAM.
A NEW enterprise proposed by Nottingham Corporation is the operation of circular tours of the city, throughout the year, in conjunction with the L.M.S. Railway Co. Application will be made to the East Midland Traffic Commissioners for permission to operate the tour as part of a combined road-rail excursion. An inclusive road-rail fare would be charged by the railway company, a percentage of which would be paid to Nottingham Corporation.
SALT. DUPLICATION APPEAL.
I T is understood that the Scottish Motor Traction Co., Ltd., is to appeal against the decisions of the Metropolitan and Southern Scotland Traffic Commissioners to limit duplication.
"UNITED COUNTIES" DISPUTE CONTINUES.
A SETTLEMENT has not yet been reached between United Counties Omnibus Co., Ltd., and its employees, concerning wages and conditions. On Tuesday, workers at the company's Irthlingborough garage rejected the terms proposed for settlement of the dispute, whilst at Northampton the men decided to take a ballot.
LANCASTER APPROVES PLAN.
I ANCASTER CORPORATION has 1—tapproved, in principle, a scheme for co-ordination submitted by Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., in respect of services from Morecambe to Scotforth.
E42,500 FOR INDEPENDENTS.
erWO agreements for compensation 1 for independent bus companies, the businesses of which were taken over by London Transport, were submitted, last week, to the London Passenger Transport Arbitration Tribunal. The consideration to be,paid to the Reliance Omnibus Co., which formerly owned 11 buses, was R25,600, less £13,000 paid on account. The St. George Omnibus Co., which had three vehicles, was to receive £17,000.
The Tribunal reserved its decisions.
