RODNEY HAWKINS has been made engineering and technical services director of the National Bus Company, and Martin Harris is the new sales and advertising manager for National Express.

Mr Hawkins takes over from Peter Wyke Smith, who retires on June 1. Mr Smith will act in a designate capacity during May.

Mr Hawkins is currently general manager of Amalgamated Passenger Transport based at Lincoln. He joined the bus industry in 1964 as a technical assistant with Trent and in 1966 was promoted to assistant engineer at Yorkshire Traction.

In 1969 he became deputy chief engineer of Bristol Omnibus, moving to a similar position with Midland Red in 1971. In 1973 he became chief engineer of Eastern National, becoming chief engineer/assistant general manager of Alder Valley in 1978. In 1980 he became regional chief engineer for NBC's South-East region and moved to his present position in 1980.

Mr Harris will be based at Edgbaston, Birmingham. He is currently marketing officer for Southdown Motor Services at Brighton.

He joined the industry in 1963 as a traffic clerk with Black and White and has worked with Midland Red and National Travel South-East.
