Citybus replaced the tokens iith flat fares on all Belfast ervices. Belfast has therefore ,ecome the first city in the tritish Isles to introduce a 100 er cent flat fare scheme.
The cash bus fare is 20p for ny length of journey, lthough cheaper eightourney tickets can be urchased in advance through ales agents. The eightourney ticket provides a )urney for 15p and will also llow passengers to change uses to complete a journey to point in an enlarged zone round the city centre.
The change, which took lace on April 3, has been ublicised through newpapers, television, local radio nd bus advertising. An exlanatory booklet includes series of cartoons and aricatures of Werner Ieubeck OBE, managing irector of Citybus, by Belfast artoonist Rowel Friars.
Modelled on continental ires practice, the system uses :ritish cancelling machines -lanufactured by Ticket :quipment of Cirencester. 'wo machines, one at the 7ont and one half-way along, re fitted to each bus.
