Dover Harbour Board spokesmen claimed that the drop in freight was due to smaller numbers of cars being imported and exported — but the figures for commercial traffic using the port also showed a small er increase than expected at 2 per cent.
Industrial problems at the Dutch port of Rotterdam are said to have given false figures for February 1977 which have distorted last month's figures.
DHB claims that the real figures would indicate a continued growth which will be given a further boost when the new ro-ro facilities at the port are completed.
