Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN interesting new form of contractticket travel is being introduced by Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., in the Preston neighbourhood. Beginning on April 1st the cost of contracts was sub • The Ribble Co. Introduces a Quite New Season-ticket ) Basis

stantially reduced, but holders are now required to pay additionally id. for each journey made.

Answering a statement that the new conditions would mean an increase in travel charges for many regular bus users, an official of the company stated that the new system constituted an economic step. Contract holders had not paid in the past for the service they obtained, and contract tickets had had to be subsidized from ordinary fares.

The altered conditions placed the contract within the means of every regular bus user, and it was not his opinion that passengers would find their transit costs considerably increased. Taking as an example a run cited as the most "expensive," he said that whereas the old half-yearly contract rate was £3 2s. 6d., the new half-yearly contract casts It 5s., and if two return journeys are made six days weekly the total outlay will be £3 17s. For 3s a week the holder would thus cover 60

miles—au average of little more than ,1.d. a mile. The new method ensures examination of contracts on each journey.

Bus travellers who object to the new scale point out that petrol costs have been reduced rend that the present is an inappropriate.time te increase charges of any kind. But they overlook the _increasing administration costs.
