TILBURY Urban District Council is inviting tenders, which have to be delivered by April 10th, for the supply of a low-loading lorry for refuse collection. Two oil-engined double-deckers are to be bought by WALLASEY Corporation.
A refuse collector is to be demonstrated to the highways committee of NORTRFLEET Urban District Council.
The tramways tommittee of the HULL Corporation has obtained sanction to borrow 112,948 in connection with the provision of eight buses.
CRAYFORD Urban District Council is inviting tenders for the supply of a low
loader for refuse collection. Tenders have to be delivered by April 16th: The passenger-transport committee of Norrixenam Corporation is inviting tenders for the supply of 25 doublesaloon six-wheeled trolley-buses. Further particulars can be obtained from the general manager, Carter Gate Depot, Parliament Street, Nottingham, and tenders have to be delivered by 10 a.m. on April 24th.
WALTHAMSTOW Borough Council is inviting tenders for the supply of two refuse-collection vehicles. The machines are to be of 10-cubie-yd, capacity, or. alternatively, of 7-cubic-yd. capacity, and equipped with hydraulic end-tipping bodies having metal covers. Tenders have to be delivered by 5 p.m. on April 24th. Fuller particulars can be obtained from the town clerk, Town Hall, Walthamstow, London, D.17. Oswald Tillotson's Progress.
The net profit of Oswald Tillotsoy, 1929, Ltd., of Burnley, for 1930 amounted to £21,047, as against £14,821 in the previous year. It is proposed to pay a dividend of 10 per cent. on the old shares, whilst the 320,000 new 5s. shares issued during the year are to receive a payment at the same rate for a Period of six months. The sum of £6,374 is to be carried forward, as against £4,195 brought into the accounts. The company acts as the wholesale distributor in 12 counties for A.E.C. products and during the year it made satisfactory progress.
A Chance for Coach Owners.
The coaching industry in the neighbourhood of London, and particularly the express services, should receive a considerable increase in custom during the period of that most popular of shows, the Ideal Home Exhibition, organised by Me Daily Mail, which opens at I p.m. to-day at Olympia, London, W., and will close on May 2nd. The price of admission is 2s. until 6 p.m., when it is reduced to is.
A Company's Buses to Replace Municipal Trams.
Kirkcaldy Town Council recently decided to accept the offer of W. Alexander and Sons, Ltd., Camelon, Falkirk, to provide the whole of the public passenger services required for the borough. Under the terms of the agreement the company is to make a cash payment of £27,000 and an additional payment of £2,000 per annum for a period of 21 years and the present corporation tramways system will be abandoned as from May 15th next.
Morris Motors Report.
The report of Morris Motors, Ltd., for the year ended December 31st, 1930, shows a net profit on trading and interest received amounting to £1,303,308. After the dividends on the preference shares have been met there is a. balance of £820,994, which, with the amount brought forward (£118,753) and profit on investment, gives a total of £949,155 for distribution. The directors recommend the payment of a dividend of 10 per cent, on the ordinary shares (f200,000), a transfer to the reserve for income tax of £100,000, and the carrying forward of £258,112. Goodwill, etc., are to be written down by £391,043.
Contracting for the Supply of Lubricants.
Further to a paragraph appearing in our issue dated March 17th, Silvertown Lubricants, Ltd., Minoco Wharf, West Silvertown, London, E.16, asks us to point out that it has also been appointed an official contractor to Commercial Distributors (Yorkshire), Ltd., and the company points out that it is already supplying lubricants to some of the largest members of the Commercial Motor Users Association in Yorkshire. Stocks of the company's manufactured products are held in all the important centres in Yorkshire.
A Report on Patents and Designs.
The report of the departmental committee on the Patents and Designs Act and the practice of the Patent Office was published one day last week, and
copies can be obtained from H.M. Stationery Office, price Is. 6d. each. The minutes of evidence taken before the committee will be published in the course of the next few weeks.
The committee was appointed in May, 1929, by the Board of Trade to consider and report as to whether any, and if so what, amendments of the Patents and Designs Act, or changes in the practice of the Patent Office were desirable. Additions to a Touring Fleet.
W. Alexander and Sons, Ltd., Falkirk, is augmenting its present fleet of touring coaches with 30 additional new Leyland all-weather saloons, which are to be used during the ensuing touring season and will operate from Glasgow. The bodies which will accommodate from 14 to 28 persons, are at present in course of construction at the company's body-building works in Camelon.
