• The Bradford area passenger officer of the Transport and General Workers Union, Mr. Joe Brogden, lost no time in challenging the views expressed by Mr. G. G. Hilditch, at the MPTA annual conference last week. Mr. Hilditch in his paper implied that oneman buses would give no real financial saving.

On Thursday of last week Mr. Brogden said: "If he feels like that why is his department trying to get an extension of o-m-o?" He said that he felt Mr. Hilditch had based his argument on single-deck one-man buses which usually served routes with light passenger traffic. He continued "If we consider the type of double-deck bus being used in Manchester which can take 96 passengers—an extra 20 or more passengers on each bus at peak times— that means an immediate increase in productivity as the services can be rearranged and fewer vehicles are needed."
