Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FRENCH-BASED international logistics company Geodis is preparing to make nearly a quarter of its 60 UK-based staff drivers redundant, citing poor trading conditions.

The company has not yet issued redundancy notices, but has confirmed it is talking to 14 drivers about severance terms. "We are likely to make a number of drivers redundant," according to a spokesman.

One driver told CM that he has been given a prospective departure date of October 21 but has yet to have his redundancy package explained to him.

The Geodis spokesman says the redundancies are necessary because of a "weak UK export market and general pressure on the business".

The redundant drivers are based at Geodis' Rugby and High Wycombe depots.

The company spokesman expects full details of the redundancies to be made available later this month.
