OLYMPIA • The goods are safely delivered, and the Bedford hasn't missed a beat.

Firstly, there was Yugoslavia. We find a little local eatery where the menu is as limited as our ability to communicate our wants. Confining yourself to the speciality of the region seems to be the best idea and things look up when we join the locals in their liquid speciality. . They have obviously been filming Len Deighton's latest epic here, though — everybody is in either military uniform or one of those strange east-European flat leather caps.

On to the border, where we find that a letter from the Greek ministry of the interior is a bit like one of Sam Goldwyn's fabled verbal contracts — not worth the paper it's written on. They just do not want to let our load pass.

Still, we, and our precious cargo, eventually arrive.

We still have Olympia to deal with: Olympic fever might have hit Seoul, but it hasn't touched southern Greece yet. At least, it hasn't touched the security guard who doesn't understand the significance of our arrival. The Bedford has performed its task in exemplary fashion, and we have the photos to prove it.
