ENGINEERING and traffic staff are being changed at four National Bus Company subsidiaries, London Country's chief engineer, Len StImpson, retires at the end of this month and will be succeeded by the company's assistant chief engineer (operations), Alan Jones, Mr Stirnpson has been with London Country and London Transport since he became an LT engineering apprentice In 1940. He rose through LT's engineering hierarchy to become divisional engineer for the country bus and coach department in May 1969, and seven months later assumed his present post with the formation of London Country.

Mr Jones, by comparison, has carved his career within NBC, having started as an apprentice with Eastern National In 1964. After working with NBC coaching companies, he moved to London Country In 1977 as its southern area engineer, and has held his present position since early last year.

Michael Palmer takes over next week as traffic manager with Midland Red South, based at Rugby. He replaces Michael Bil[Ingham, who has left the bus business.

Until now, he has been Western National's Plymouth area commercial manager, a post he attained after 22 years In the bus industry in the West Country.

David Kershaw becomes assistant traffic manager with Eastern National on November 1, replacing Ian Banwell, who is now traffic manager with Southern National. Mr Kershaw is National Welsh's Bridgend area manager, and has been with NBC and its predecessors since 1962.

National Travel East has a new assistant coaching manager in Andrew Gunning, who was the company's operating superintendent at its Liversedge headquarters, in West Yorkshire. He started his career as a bus conductor with West Yorkshire Road Car and has worked with Halifax Passenger Transport and Wallace Arnold Tours.

His appointment follows NTE's traffic manager, Peter Green's appointment as Ribble's marketing manager.
