A SWITCH to diesel power should be encouraged by setting, diesel fuel tax at a more favourable rate, says the Lorries and the Environment Committee.
It has recommended to the Chancellor of the Exchequer that, as diesels give between 15 and 50 per cent more mileage per, gallon, that light van operators should be encouraged to switch from petrol engines. This would produce significant energy savings, says the committee, as light vans have a relatively short life span.
