Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

QNE of the largest applications comes from the South Wales area. Vehicle Hire and Supply Co., Ltd., of Rushden, Northants, ask to add six articulated vehicles of substantial tonnage to carry liquefiable petroleum gases and other liquefiable gases as required. The vehicles will be based at Ncath (Glam), and if granted will operate under R licence.

The Superest Upholstery Company. Ltd., of Mountain Ash, add a continental flavour to the B licence new applications section of the same Applications and Decisions. 1-hey ask for a 3-ton van with the normal user simply: "General. Holland, Belgium-South Wales."

R. Shepherd, of Maidenhead, ask the South Eastern Authority for a new A licence to operate two vehicles "General goods, England, Scotland and Wales." This is yet another contract A switch, whilst in the same area there is a fairly substantial C licence switch to a B licence by May's Motors (Transport), Ltd., of Elstead. In the first instance they wish to add three vehicles to their B licence; they then seek a change of existing conditions on that licence, and finally ask to switch five vehicles, at present operating under C licence. If the latter is granted, they propose to delete three vehicles from their licence.

The Northern area As and Ds carries several C licence switches-Hornsby of Aspatria, Raisby Quarries, Ltd., of Ferryhill, and J. G. Nicholson, of Hebburn.

Recipients of this publication will have noticed that the " Public Inquiries " section now lists, in the " Representations or Objection" column, the name of every objector. The practice of showing the name of only one independent objector and giving the number of any other objectors, has been discontinued. 1 understand that the reason for this is to highlight objections that are continually being made against applicants asking for extra vehicles or new licences by a certain group of North Eastern road haulage companies.
