Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE GLOBAL economic slowdown has affected Norbert Dentressangle's plans to overhaul its UK transport arm, and will also hamper its efforts to improve the former Christian Salvesen business it purchased last year.

Despite this, the French logistics group posted a growth in sales of 81% for the first nine months of 2008, which does include the Salvesen acquisition. Sales in its transport division grew by 63% overall, but at a slower pace since June.

The firm says this is down to "the decision to reduce its vehicle fleet ahead of a slowdown in economic activity". The group's sell-off of four logistics sites in the third quarter helped it to wipe off €4.5m (i35.6m) of net debt by raising approximately €20m.

It says the strategy will enable it to "achieve higher flexibility and leaner operations" and is in line with its focus on operating leased warehouses.
