SCANIA HAS ANNOUNCED a sharp increase in third-quarter profits. despite a drop in orders in the European market.
The rise was better than expected. although the company, the world's fifth-largest truck maker, blamed its comparatively poor European performance on weak economic growth in the region.The announcement follows strong results from Volvo. Scania's main competitor. Leif Ostling. president and CEO of Scania. comments: "Scania's profit has, during the first nine months of the year. been in line with my expectations. Economic growth in Scania's main markets in western Europe was weak but is expected to improve somewhat next year."
South America. Scania's thirdlargest market, provided the best news for the company. where orders rose by a third.
