Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THIEVES HIJACKED a truck laden with whisky after its driver pulled into a lay-by for a break.

The 42-year-old man from Doncaster was bundled into a van at gunpoint before being dumped on the outskirts of York three hours later.

His ordeal began at 7.45pm on 27 October after parking the trailer belonging to Geest North Sea Line alongside the Al, next to the junction with the A66 at Scotch Corner.

His Renault Premium 420 truck was found the following day minus the blue-and-white trailer at the McArthur Glen factory outlet centre on the A64 near York.

Dutch-owned Geest North Sea Line, which is not part of UK food supplier Geest, has declined to comment.

At least three men were involved in the hijacking, and North Yorkshire Police say the driver was badly shaken but unhurt during the ordeal.

Statistics from Truckpol suggest that at least a dozen armed hijackings are occurring every quarter (see Yardstick. page 22).
