Road Orders

New orders have introduced: • A red route on the A501 at Camden, Islington and Westminster (SI 1997 No 2002, priced £2.40); • A 50mph speed limit on the A127 (Southend Arterial Road., Havering) (SI 1997 No 2281, pricd 65p).

Both Sls are available from the Stationery Office, phone 0171 873 0011.

Northern Ireland

A number of changes to the regulation of road traffic and vehicles in Northern Ireland came into force on 1 October: • The penalty for offences involving obligatory endorsement is now fixed at DR or for non-obligatory endorsement offences a £20 penalty is payable (SR 1997 No 368, priced £1.10). Also see SR 1997 No 369, priced, 11.95) for a list of offences; • A court must disqualify a person until he passes an appropriate driving test in certain circumstances—for example, where he has caused death or grievous bodily injury, was driving dangerously, or was under the influence of drink or drugs (SR 1997 No 370, priced £1.10); • Further provisions of the Road Traffic Offenders (Northern Ireland) Order 1996, which provides for the prosecution and punishment of offences, have come into force by commencement order (SR 1997 No 372, priced 65p); • It is an offence to leave a vehicle or trailer where it causes unnecessary obstruction of the road (SR 1997 No 371, priced 65p).

All of these SRs are now available from the Stationery Office.
