Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

At Aberdeen, last week, judgment was given in a case which had been adjourned as a result of a technical objection -raised by an advocate. The objection was upheld.

Mr. R. P. M'Intosh, haulage contractor, Bridgend, Forgue, was charged with -failing to cause two drivers to keep .a record of their working hours. The two employees were also charged with failing to keep the required records. They pleaded guilty and were fined. Mr. M'Intosh, however, pleaded not guilty and evidence was led.

It was then pointed out by Mr. Connochie, solicitor, that the Fiscal had not Ted evidence to prove that the defendant was the holder of the licences for the two lorries concerned, consequently 'Mr. M'Intosh should be acquitted.

A Month to Improve Maintenance. . .

Mr. A. F. Nicholson, Western Licensing Authority, held a public inquiry, at Taunton, last week, to see whether a Sturminster Newton operator was a fit and proper person to hold an A licence. He was alleged not to have maintained his vehicles in a serviceable condition.

Mr, T. D. Corpe, for the " defendant," stated that the man had sent his vehicles to the local garages for repairs, but it would seem that they had not carried out the work efficiently. He had bad difficulty in obtaining experienced mechanics, but he was now negotiating for one to take charge of vehicle maintenance, Mr. Corpe explained.

Mr. Nicholson gave the operator a month in which to arrange for improved maintenance. Another public inquiry will be held on November 30 to see whether any improvement has been made. If not, the man's licence will be revoked.
