AI A Peterborough haulier has blasted Transport for London (lit) after a failure in the congestion charge automated fleet system means that he is being forced to pay manually for a number of trucks, Martin Wiles, director of BC Wiles & Sons claims that not only has his company been hit by the failure of Tfl. to mandate its direct debtt (CM 13-20 Feb 1, but that he is still unable to register his fleet fully because the system does not recognise some of his vehicles' body types. He Is just one of a number of hauliers unable to register their fleets with the scheme.

"I have tried to register my fleet so that I don't have to worry about which vehicles go into London, but I now have to keep a close eye on the trucks that go Into the zone and ensure that these vehicles have been paid for separately. I am absolutely appalled at the situation. It has been days since I started the registration process and Tfl is still no nearer to sorting it out. They should waive penalty notices for these vehicles until it is resolved."

A Tfl spokesman says: ''We are aware of the problems, which are due to differences in data supplied by the operators and the Driving Vehicle Licensing Agency [DVIAl. We apologise to everyone affected and hope to get the problem rectified as soon as possible."
