le Thieves have targeted a Kirkintillochbased haulier for the second time in six months, taking equipment worth over 125,000 and demolishing the owner's livelihood.

John Bell, of Bell Hlab Hire, which specialises in shifting civil engineering machinery, was the victim of a robbery last September, when one of his Volvo trucks was stolen just six weeks after it was bought.

When the insurance came through, Bell bought another six-wheeler Volvo and fixed a .£25,11100 crane to it. But thieves struck again on 25 February and took both the truck and the crane In the middle of the night. The Volvo has since been recovered, "Police say it was stolen to order," says Bell, wile now has serious doubts about whether his business will recover. Bell adds that the crane is expensive, and the loss of its earning potential will have a devastating effect on his business.

A spokeswoman for Strathclyde police says enquiries are continuing and that anyone with information should come forward.
