R. C. Howes will relinquish his directorships and his post as general sales manager in the Duple Group from March 31 in order to take another appointment in the motoring industry. G. A. H. Payze has been appointed acting general sales manager from April 1.
Ronald T. Barnfield is joining the board of Shelvoke and Drewry Ltd, member of the Butterfield Group, as marketing adviser, mechanicalhandling products. Mr Bamfield joined the 50-year-old family business of Mercury Truck and Tractor Co Ltd as sales director in 1947 and became chairman and managing director in 1958, whereupon he founded Mercury Airfield Equipment Ltd and Mercury Snow Control Ltd. In 1964 he sold the Mercury Group to Dennis Brothers Ltd but remained active chairman until recently when he resigned from the Dennis board.
C. G. Fenn has been appointed assistant transport manager of F. and W. Thornton Ltd, of Great Bridge, Tipton, Staffs, in order to help promote the expansion of the transport company, which is a member of the Central Manufacturing and Trading Group Ltd. Mr Fenn spent three years as assistant works manager with a Stourbridge. Worcs, brick company.
G. A. Flint is to join the Acrow Group as managing director of Adamson and Hatchett Ltd, container maker, from May 1. Mr Flint joins the group from Laporte Industries, where he was engineering manager.
J. Ord Turnbull has been appointed transport manager and cleansing superintendent with Whitley Bay borough council_ At present he is transport manager with a fin-n of civil engineers and plant contractors, in Co. Durham.
R. F. {Tommy) Thompson, 56, manager of the systems division of the Bell Punch Co Ltd, has been appointed sales manager.
C. J. Mao, 31, export sales representative, becomes export sales manager.
A. J. Hunt and H. T. Hunt, brothers with more than 90 years' service between them with Aldershot and District Traction Co Ltd, were among 15 staff members recently to receive long-service awards presented by D. S. Deacon, chairman of the company.
George Blair, Western SMT Co driver, added yet another safety award to his collection when he retired last week after 46 years with the company; it was the 42-year-safedriving medal presented by Police Inspector G. Seaman. Traffic manager J. S. Mack presented Mr Blair with a watch on behalf of his colleagues; Mr Blair has also been awarded the TGWU gold medal.
