Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ANUMBER of interesting trailers, constructed expressly for a variety of specific types of work, has recently been built by Carrimore SixWheelers, IAd., High Road, North Fincliley, London, N.2. A selection of the more outstanding are shown in accompanyin.g illustrations.

To be used for transporting old tins, etc„ that have not been crushed, the large-capacity vehicle depicted measures internally 21 ft, 6 ins. long, 7 ft. high and 7 ft. wide (1,050 cubic ft.). Its sides and ends are made of expanded metal and its loads will be collected from municipal salvage depots, refuse dumps, etc. There are vertical doors at the rear.

In the service of New London Electron Works, Ltd., East Ham, London. E.6, for which concern it has been built, it will be towed by a Peritractor, a conversion of the Fordson machine, marketed by W. Harold Perry, Ltd., FirichIey, N.12.

Built for carrying cable drums, transformers and so forth, the lowloading vehicle illustrated, which has been supplied to the Exe Valley Electricity Co., Ltd., has a floor height of only 3 ft. 2 ins. The dropped platform. is 9 ft. 6 ins, long and 4 ft. 7 ins, wide, whilst the part over the turntable is 4 ft. 6 ins, long and approximately the same width. A tailboard, 3 ft. 6 ins, high, serves as a loading ramp.

The front and rear wheels are shod respectively with 25 by 6 and 42 by 9 tyres. Operable by screw-down hand wheel or from the towing vehicle the brakes act on the rear wheels, the drums measuring 16 ans. by 3 ins.

The low loading level has largely been obtained by employing a dropped rear axle, mounting the springs :above the cranked parts, and anchoring their ends to the sides of the body. This trailer has a wheelbase of 9 it. and is designed to carry 5-6-ton loads.

Incorporating two four-steelwheeled bogies, the pipe-carrying trailer seen in the group of pictures is destined for Mexico, where it will he employed for the haulage of steel piping over desert country. It is unsprung and rated as a 10-tonner. The bogies are inter-coupled to give ample articulation over rough ground and are provided with swivelling bolsters.

Made to the order of Tractors (London), Ltd., Broad Lane, London, N.15, the track-laying semi-trailer is a 5-tonner for pole or pipe-carrying, and one of its nciteworthy features is that the track IS of the rubber-jointed type supplied by Roadless-Traction, Ltd., Hounslow, Finally, we include a picture of .a flat-platform four-wheeled trailer constructed for the Pressed Steel Co., Ltd., Cowley. It has a low leading line and is 30 ft. in length. This, of course, exceeds the legal limit, but it will be used solely an private roads,, its function being the conveyance of pressed-steel bodies from point to point within the confines of the factories. ,

Besides the trailers illustrated,. there, are certain other recently built Cavilmore machines worthy of note. One of these is a side-tipping vehicle for cake carrying. A 7-tanner, it is equipped with Spenborough handhydraulic tipping gear and measures 17 ft. long, 7 ft. wide and 4 ft. high. For discharging the load, the sides, each made in two sections, swing open from above, quadrant-shaped screena. at their end edges limiting their opening, and guiding the flow, of coke.

Another interesting machine 'is a telescopic-pole semi-trailer. When the vehicle is extended, the distance between the bolsters is 19 ft. 7 ins., whilst in the contracted position., this measurement is 11 ft. 5 ins. It has been built for D. Kitching and Sous, Ltd., Knaresborough, and is far timber haulage in connection with this company's sawmills.

Described as a mobile-ail-plant vehicle, a 30-cwt. van-type trailer completes the list. It has been built for the Pirelli-General Cable Works, Ltd., Southampton, and is for use in connection with the maintenance of transformers. With a capacity of 600 cubic ft., it has a loading level of 14 ins., and 24 by 7 tyres.
