SWANSEA AGREEMENT ON TROLLEYBUSES.

SWANSEA Corporation will not object to the Bill which the South Wales Transport. Co., Ltd., is promoting to seek power to abandon the local tramways in favour of motorbus operation. An agreement between the corporation and the company provides for the loaning by the former to the latter of £100,000.

Amongst the terms of the agreement is provision for the payment by the company; from 1943 to 1957, of a minimum of £5,000 a year, or a quarter of the local profits, whichever be the greater.

COMPANY PREVENTED FROM BUILDING STATION.

LAST week a Ministry of Health inquiry was held at Skegness, when the Lincolnshire Road Car Co., Ltd., appealed from a decision, of the local council to prevent the concern, • under the town-planning scheme, from developing certain land in Drummond Road for the construction of a bus station. The land adjoins a small bus station owned by the company.

The council itself has a station scheme under consideration.

The appellant company operates a large number of buses to and from the resort, which, at present, disembark and load passengers at four different points in the town. It was claimed that a central station will considerably relieve congestion and inconvenience.

The main contentions of the council were that the proposed location is dangerous, having regard to the' claims of other traffic, and that the land in question is scheduled as a residential area under the town-planning scheme. These arguments were denied.
