Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Dennis Eagle will launch its first eight-wheel municipal chassis at the Institute of Waste Management show in Torquay next week.

Dennis's 8x4 refuse collector is a crew-cabbed Phoenix 25 plated at 28,450kg. It is fitted with the 201kW (270hp) Cummins C-series engine and has 25m' of load space.

There has been an increasing demand for heavier refuse collection vehicles, says David Clarke, sales manager of the Warwick-based manufacturer. "We couldn't supply but more and more people were asking for eight-wheelers."

El Seddon Atkinson will use the show to unveil three Jack Allenbodied chassis; two are sixwheel 311s with the Cummins L10 187kW (250hp) engine; the other is an eight-wheeler, with Strato TC cab and Cummins 205kW (275hp) L10. This is the first time Jack Allen has bodied a Strato TC chassis.

The Seddon Atkinson 311s are plated at 26 tonnes: both will be on the Jack Allen stand in the livery of waste firm Grundon.

The vehicles are similar to Seddon's 5.0m-wheelbase truck, but one has its 7.0-tonne front axle set back by 280mm to accommodate the three-person municipal cab with wider entrance steps. The 311s are nor

mally available as 6x2s or 6x4s with the Perkins Phaser 157kW (210hp) engine.

Both of the new vehicles have Allison automatic transmission: the municipal cab version has a Jack Allen Colectomatic 25m3 body and E rohoist lip lift hoist; the other is fitted with the standard haulage wheelbase and standard day cab.

It is bodied with Jack Allen's front-loading Colectomatic with a 20.6m3 main compartment and a charge box of 9m3.

The eight-wheel version uses a nine-speed Eaton 11609 gearbox and Hendrickson Norde rubber suspension on the rear axles. A 27m3 Colectomatic Big Bite body is fitted to cater for the industrial waste market.

It is in the colours of Municipal Vehicle Hire and will be on Seddon's stand.
