Turkey• TURKISH TRANSIT problems experienced by hauliers on their Middle East traffic, are being overcome in part by a new roIl-on/roll-off ferry service operating between Marseilles and Beirut.

The first vessel, which went into service last week, sails every 11 days with a transit time of four days and has been fully booked for the foreseeable future. It accommodates 11 trailers of 12m.

The service is to be supplemented in July by a second vessel with •a capacity for 60 12.m trailers and the service will become weekly. Both vessels will cater for driveraccompanied traffic. They are operated by Die Meridionale de Navigation of Marseilles, and the UK agents are Sutch and Searle Shipping Ltd of Buckhurst Hill, Essex.
