Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Holland, the main business being that of crane hire; we wish to operate our own transport purely as a supporting service to the cranes. In this country we carry on a similar business operating on a C licence, a system not unlike that which we understand applies in Holland. We wish to operate a rigid vehicle and drawbar trailery to suit our requirements the vehicle would need to have a maximum g.t.w. of 22 tons with a maximum overall length of 16m (52(1). Is such a combination legally permissible?

Incidentally, the vehicle would be purchased and based at Dordrecht and operated on a radius of 150 miles. A second question is: Do we need to employ an attendant, providing that at all times we do not operate as an abnormal combination?

And in terms of economy what are your views on operating a drawbar combination as against an articulated combination of similar capacities?

AThe weight you quote and the length are

both within the legal maxima in Holland; the Dutch regulations do not require an attendant: there is little to choose from the point of economy between a drawbar combination and an artic—it is more a matter of manoeuvrability.
