The theme is Looking Ahead to the 80s and the conference programme covers a wide range of subjects, all of which are important to transport people thoughout the next 10 years.

Graham Montgomerie, Commercial Motor's Engineering Editor, supported by Walter Batstone of NFC and Peter Capon of Leyland Vehicles Ltd will discuss Technical developments in the heavy goods vehicle range. John Silberrnann, the RHA national chairman, has been striving to forge a new image for the Association and new links with the' owner-driver. He will discuss how this can be achieved and what benefits can accrue to members and the industry as a result.

Ken Munro, who is assistant to the director-general for transport at EEC, will explain European transport legislation and look at what is planned for the 80s. He will show how the new British European MPs can influence transport planning in the community, Peter Thompson, chief executive, NFC will analyse the papers and examine how their content can be used to increase productivity and efficiency for any size of company.

We are happy to welcome back Sir Dan Pettit as FMC's chairman. The programme promises an interesting day and the Road Transport Industry Training Board has approved it for grant earning purposes.
