John Beasley, 37, has joined DAF Trucks (GB) Ltd as parts manager from the Greenhous Group where he held a similar post. Neville Grandison, 37, who joined DAF Motors from Rootes in 1971, later transferring to DAF Trucks, becomes service manager.

William C. Brown, assistant manager (traffic) with Edinburgh City Transport, retires on July 15 after almost 49 years' service. Mr. Brown will be succeeded by Neil Townend, formerly principal assistant (special projects).

Lindsay Simpson has been appointed chairman of Hilton Transport Services. Mr Simpson was chairman and managing director of William Hudson Ltd. Brian Alien, at the same time, has been appointed to the board of HTS as a non-executive director. Mr Allen is chairman of Shipton Automation.

James Law, one of the longest serving solicitors in the Scottish transport industry, will retire at the end of July after 40 years in the courts.

Charles Pearson joins National Carriers Ltd, as commercial manager for Scotland from British Rail where he was an assistant marketing officer.

D. E. Hughes, for the past three years group company secretary of S. Jones (Aldridge) Ltd, holding company of the Midland-based Heavy Haulage Group, has been appointed to the board.

John T. R. Lewis, 41, has been appointed London Transport principal mechanical assistant (rolling stock-buses). He has been deputy divisional engineer since 1971.

John A. Birks, 45, has been appointed traffic manager of Midland Red in succession to James K. Isaac who has accepted an appointment as director of operations with the West Midlands PTE. Mr Birks is at present National Travel manager, Midlands, with the Central Activities Group.

OBITUARIES

We record with regret the deaths of Alfred William Bull and H. G. ("Bertie") Henly.

Mr Bull, 76, was chairman and managing director of Westmore (Newport I.W.) Ltd from 1919 until the firm was acquired by the Road Haulage Executive in 1950. He was also at one time on the board of Vectis Shipping Company and Vectis Roadways Ltd, both of Newport, Isle of Wight, Mr Henly, 82, was the founder of Henlys Ltd. He became president of the company in 1966 on his retirement as chairman and joint managing director.
