Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

EQUIPPING a Bedford TK chassis of 120-in, wheelbase with an 8-cu.-yd: tipping body posed a particular axleloading problem when G. E. Neville and Son, Ltd., Nottingham Road. Mansfield, were asked to tackle the job by an operator. An all-aluminium sectioned body of the standard Neville type was fitted with an angled extension at the rear. and the front section was also angled. in the interests of weight distribution and to provide unobstructed dis charge of the material. In the laden condition this gives a front-to-rear load ratio of 25 per cent.-75 per cent.

It has been estimated that if these b-ody modifications had not been made the rear axle would have taken about 82 per cent.

of the load, which would have resulted in the axle being overloaded when the vehicle was in a typical laden condition. The load-ratio difficulty was mainly a function of the cab length being some 10 in. greater than that of the average conventional cab, which reduces the space available for body mounting. At the front end, the body is sloped forward to correspond with the angle of the cab panel, and at the rear the floor is extended to give a forward-sloping tail.

In addition to providing acceptable axle loading, this arrangement enables the material to be discharged well ckar of the spare-wheel carrier. An Edbro 2AT lightweight underbody twin-ramtipping unit is used.
