One of the newest entrants in this sector, Daewoo launched the Czech-built product in 2002. While the list price might encourage the thought, the Daewoo is by no means a cheap and cheerful product and first impressions are extremely positive. Stylish looks, decent cab access and an interior which includes a well-arranged dash. Interior build quality is not one of the strong points and there's not a lot of interior room despite Daewoo's claims that it's one of the roomiest on the market—perception is everything.

The rigid range covers the 7.5 to 9-tonne GVW bracket, though there's also an urban attic in the line-up. The 2.15m wide cab is available in sleeper and day cab format. Power comes from the 150hp version of the Cummins ISBe engine — ostensibly the same as that used in the Oaf LF — driving through a familiar ZF five-speed transmission. The braking system is from Wabco.

Daewoo pitches its products as being simple both to own and service, though so far it has struggled for share in the UK market.
