With reference to the letters of H. Gray and A. Temple (CM, December 9), I would like to answer Mr Gray.
Bus drivers may, in theory, perform a valuable service. This, in practice, does not work, I have often been left standing for over half an hour after a bus has been due. If and when it does finally arrive, it is quite probable it will be in convoy with two or three of its fellows.
Bus drivers may well be the "first to stop at pedestrian crossings:" it is unfortunate they do not halt so readily at proper bus stops.
Also, when they do stop at crossings, perhaps they would care to wait long enough for people to get from one pavement to the other safely.
In reply to the suggestion that heavy lorries be banned from city centres, how does Mr Gray propose deliveries be made to shops?
Also, the suggestion that all van deliveries be made before Eiam is really not a viable one. The added cost would soon be reflected in the prices a housewife has to pay and, while the busmen may well have shift pay, the lorry driver
