They won't be drinking tea at the Ministry of Defence this week. The winner of our funny class in the Suzie competition was BRIAN SHIPTON, of Kent, who is employed there as a technical officer. His funny answer did not give the correct answer to where the name came from, but it was a good effort.

Brian received a gallon of Scotch from Alex Gibson, sales manager of Magirus Scotland, at his local, The Fox and Hounds, Dartford in good time for the New Year.

Here is Brian's effort: What is a Suzie?

A Suzie is a curly pipe coloured red or yellow or blue, It's not to tow your trailer with, though people often do.

A Suzie carries air pressure to feed your trailer 'stopper', Disconnect your Suzie and you're bound to come a cropper. The Suzie got its name, I'm told, from Intertruck, that's who, 'Twas they that did the first design in 1 962 The idea caught on quickly, as everybody knows, A distinct advantage over oily rubber hose, But why they called it Suzie is difficult to tell, It conjures thoughts of sexy blondes curving out and in as well.

Whereas the plastic Suzie, though attractive to observe, Is very sadly lacking in the Suzie type of curve.

So driver you feel confident as long as Suzie's there, Particularly with three of them to take charge of your air.

The curvy blonde is very nice beside you on a journey.

But your air pipes are essential, be they Suzie, Phil or Ernie!

But hear this — not one correct answer was received. Indeed, I believe the secret is known to but three people, Graeme Smith, chairman of Intertruck, the man who first thought of it, Jimmy Robertson, and me. Sorry — we're still not telling.
