Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A South Wales Operator Objects to Bartering Away His Remote Prospects AMINISTRY OF TRANSPORT inquiry was conducted at Merthyr Tydfil, by Mr. C. Romer, into the appeal of Messrs. Jones Bros., Treharris (Glam.), against a ruling qf the Mertlirr watch committee and Merthyr Corporation. In Some respects the

ground of appeal was unusual. The appeal was not against refusal to grant coach licence's, but against what was described as an ." extraordinary " con-' dition attached to the issue of the licence. .

For the appellants it was explained

that in October, 1928, they obtained sanction and licences for a hos service from Treharris to Pontypridd. No objectionable condition was then attached tothe lieences issued. When, however, the firm .recently applied for renewal of licences the Merthyr authority attached the" unreasonable" and " illegal " conditionthat the licences

were re-issued on the distinct understanding that Messrs. Jones Bros. gave undertaking not in future to extend their services into Merthyr, and, furthermore, gave undertaking to run no vehicles into Merthyr without the permission of Merthyr Corporation.

These conditions made a permanent circumscription on Messrs. Jones Bros.' services, and they were unwilling to barter away their future prospects in this way. They might want to project their services into Merthyr. The decision will be announced later.
