Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A former haulier, sentenced to 10 years in jail in 1984 for drug smuggling, must wait to see if his bid to start up in business again is successful.

Brent Savage, of Tower Court, Lubenham, Market Harborough, had applied for an international licence for one vehicle and trailer with an operating centre at the premises of Corby Freight, Corby, Eastern Licensing Authority Brigadier Compton Boyd was told that Savage was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment six years ago after being convicted of being knowingly involved in the import of cannabis.

Ian Rothera, for Savage, said Savage had been released in February and now had the chance of contracts with Arrow Motor Racing Test Team and Donington Park Racing.

Savage had pleaded not guilty to the offence and had always maintained his innocence. He had financed the running of a vehicle by another man to the Middle East, which was used for drug smuggling. He now wanted to start afresh.

Wilfred Marlow, managing director of Corby Freight and Geoffrey Illingworth, a partner with insurance broker Eurorisk, gave evidence in support of Savage. Boyd will announce his decision in writing.
