Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Truck Recognition is the book which answers most of the questions you have about the trucks you see on British roads, but were afraid to ask. It is a 96-page, pocket-sized book which many so-called truck experts will be sure to refer to frequently but probably never admit to doing so because much of the information it contains is so basic.

Author Alan Millar is editor of the Motor Agents' Association's monthly journal Motor Trade Executive. Millar was formerly CM's news editor and, like most of the journalists who have occupied that position, he has a natural aversion to flowery prose and confusing technical descriptions. You will find none of these in this book — just accurate, informative captions to the many black and white photographs of trucks above 3.5 tonnes GVW accompanied by concise descriptions of the model ranges from which they come and brief histories of their manufacturers.

A two-page preface called "What does it all mean?" explains in layman's English some of the most commonly-used "truck speak" terms such as "forward control" and "8x4". Truck Recognition is published by Ian Allan of Shepperton, Surrey and costs £4.95.
